Meet the Owner
Greg Sim is the owner of Mr. Carpets Floor Shop, and he wears a lot of hats. Sales, operations, customer service, you name it. He grew up around this business and officially joined full time as a young man, starting as an installer before taking on everything else that comes with running a shop. That hands-on background means he understands flooring from the ground up, literally.
Greg is Decorah through and through. He knows the houses here, the people here, and what it takes to do good work in a small community where your reputation follows you everywhere. He’s not a salesperson reading from a script. He’s a neighbor who wants your home to look great.
Our Story
It all started back in the late 1970s when Greg’s dad opened Mr. Carpets in Decorah. He built a new building in 1978 and got to work serving the community. The shop carried carpet, ceramic tile, hardwood, and eventually window treatments. Over the years, the business grew into something the community could count on, right here in Northeast Iowa.
Greg joined the business around 1989 or 1990, starting out young and learning the trade from the ground up. He spent years on the installation side before moving into sales. Decades later, he’s still here, still helping customers find the right floor for their home, and still running the same family business his dad started.
We’ve stayed local by choice. While big box stores have come and gone, we’ve kept our roots right here in Decorah. That means your money stays in the community, your questions get a real answer, and someone who knows your name is there if you need help down the road.
